SAN ANTONIO – Crews broke ground on the next piece of the Alamo’s $400 million transformation in October.
The Alamo Trust plans to start work on an education center focused on programming for children. The center will have multiple classrooms and programming to educate visitors on the history of the Alamo, as well as a STEAM lab for science, technology, engineering, arts, and math programming. An agricultural garden with a functioning acequia will be outside the building.
The Alamo Visitor Center and Museum will move forward early in 2024. This involves revamping the Crockett and Woolworth buildings, building out a 4D theater, and establishing a rooftop restaurant and event space to hold about 700 people.
The Alamo Trust says when the museum is complete, there will be no need to return to the city for more public funding.
The project’s completion is targeted for 2027.
