SAN ANTONIO – More than 200 trees, 12,600 plants, 11,000 individually cut limestone slabs, and new water features are now accessible to the public in the first phase of Hemisfair’s Civic Park.
The 8.5-acre site was recently completed, serving as a bridge between the southern edge of downtown and Southtown. The project sits next to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, the Yanaguana Gardens, The ’68 apartments, and several retail tenants.
This is just the beginning for the area as Hemisfair and its private partners are gearing up for the second phase, which will include the development of hospitality, retail, and apartment buildings on the park’s northwest side.
Civic Park’s debut is the result of a 16-month design-build process led by the San Antonio office of Skanska, an international construction firm.
The park opened Sept. 30.
